**WARNING: EXPECT TO FACE THE TRUTH**
“…Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”
I am sure the bulk of Ninety-Eight Six readers were able to string together the origin and meaning of a ‘Noahzite’ in the first place. Just odd ole’ Ryan trying to be innovative and creative for another term referring to Christ-followers. I’ve noticed a trend in people catching on to ideas that are quite distinct and unfamiliar; perhaps just plain eccentric. I am not the first to notice this. If we look at history, it’s quite often that something once initially appearing ‘off the ball’ becomes rather well-known and again, trendy. Dare I mention ‘YOLO’ or the “Harlem Shake”.
I thought it would be crucial for readers as well as myself to be reminded that we weren’t born as Noahzites. Noahzite DNA isn’t a gene we inherited when breathing our first breath on earth. The nation of Noahzites, a spiritual family and gathering of Christ-followers, isn’t documented on our initial birth certificate.
However, that’s not to say we were not loved by God before we were born or even afterwards or that He did not plan for us to eventually join His body of believers for Ephesians 1:4 says,
“Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.”
Key word there: adopt. I love that word in general but ESPECIALLY in this context. Galatians 4:7 says we were once slaves but by freedom through Christ, we have been adopted as God’s own child making us ‘heirs of Christ’.
What an unimaginable representation of family. God CHOSE us first before any of us who are now Noahzites ever made the life-changing decision to choose Him. So you see that though we were once spiritually asleep, God called us to awaken to join His family with Him positioned at the head, the Father.
As the song “Wake up Sleeper” by Gungor goes, “Wake up, wake up. Oh sleeper from the dead. Wake up. Awaken us, awaken us. Open our eyes and wake us. (let your church now wake up).”
Ninety-Eight Six readers: It was during this time of our spiritual blindness as unbelievers and people living for their own benefit and profit that we were once
‘Noahzites Temporarily Out Of Order’.
In our everyday lives, we witness Temporarily Out Of Order machines: gas pumps, arcade games, public toilets, escalators & elevators (this is the worst in 5-story malls or even in airports when carrying around luggage) and so on. These machines often compose of shortages in electricity- their source of energy and power. Without this source, these machines are useless. And these Temporarily Out Of Order machines are an inconvenience to us moving forward throughout our day.
So how does this dove-tail in to our spiritual blindness as Temporarily Out Of Order Noahzites?
Simply enough- before the point in our lives, the ‘game-changer’ if you will, when we chose to surrender and allow Christ to give us the light (Ephesians 5:14, See above)- placing Him in the driver’s seat, letting Him be the sculptor as we become the clay, giving Him the pen to be the Author and writer of our story we call life– one could not distinguish us apart from those disabled machines.
We had a spiritual shortage; our faith fuse was blown. You know how you can blow your speakers by blasting music too loud? Yeah, well we accomplished that by praising ourselves too much; tooting our own horn of pride to the extent of hitting rock bottom. We attempted to live as our own master and what was the source? A self-driven, sinful, hardened heart. Try to swallow that. I promise it won’t go down easy. Even the world slightly gets it because we hear “swallow your pride” every once in a while in film, music, books, etc.
As Temporarily Out Of Order products, we were as useless to God as a disabled gas pump to a truck with an empty tank. Not only that, but we were an inconvenience to the believers and unbelievers all around us. We caused others to stumble. We placed the youth who looked up to us on a railroad track headed off a cliff. Heck, we were an inconvenience to God by wasting our lives away while Proverbs 6:9-11 warns us not to.
But you know what the worst result of that spiritually blind life was? Breaking the Father’s heart. Telling the Creator who put us here in the first place and the One who saved us from our sin and future eternity in hell to ‘screw off’. We said, “step aside buddy, I know what I’m doing”. We slammed the door on God’s face, yet He refused to stop knocking and asking gently, constantly and lovingly to be let in. He pursued you. Not just an ‘average Joe’ pursuit. A relentless pursuit. (“Your love is relentless” has to be my favorite line from Hillsong United’s ‘Zion’ classic song entitled “Relentless”.)
Are you being humbled right now reading this? Feeling convicted yet? If so, don’t turn your attention away from it. That’s the Spirit breaking your ‘Out Of Order’ walls and penetrating your ‘Out Of Order’ heart. And you know why? Because God isn’t finished with you just yet. He will not refrain from ruining your selfish attempt to being PERMANENTLY Out Of Order.
That is why I say ‘temporarily out of order’. Wake up sleeper from your slumber and become spiritually awake. Join the family of Noahzite Nation. Accept your adoption by God by following these 3 steps:
1. Acknowledgment: Realizing your knees deep covered in sin and bound by chains making you a slave to that same sin.
(Psalms 51:3 states, “For I know my transgressions and my sin is ever before me.”)
2. Repentance: Change your ways. Change your lifestyle. Confess & find freedom.
(1 John 1:9 states, “But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”)
3. Obedience: Commit your ways to Christ and follow Him all the days of your life. Each day, strive to imitate the character of Christ- the only perfect model we have to follow.
(James 1:22-24 states, “But don’t just listen to God’s Word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the Word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in the mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.”)
