Afflictions are what honestly add so much thrill and adventure to the faith-walk of a Christian.
If there was something you believed in with all your heart, a basket you’d be willing to place all your eggs in, an entity you entrusted your whole being to……
…..would you not ask for any circumstance or experience that could bring growth to that belief? Course, you would.
It’s just that everyone is too scared or timid to allow that experience to be pain or suffering. Well if that’s true, you’ve allowed fear to creep in on your belief. Fear that grief, sorrow and mourning will ruin you; not make you stronger. And any belief out there offered by this world can be bought with fear except one: belief in Jesus. Why? Because He holds flawless, unspoiled love and this perfect love casts out all fear [1 John 4:18].
And if that experience that may entail affliction develops progression in that sole belief whatever it may be, shouldn’t you be willing to sacrifice even your vulnerability and emotions to receive it? If you agree, name me just one person or object worth sacrificing your weakness and susceptibility. Name me a person, object or entity that declares you are strong when you are in fact weak [2 Corinthians 12:9].
As a Christ follower I often find my ‘never a dull moment’ of a life to be like an ancient, vintage, rickety rollercoaster (the Six Flags kind not Cedar Point quality) that feels like it’s going to come off the tracks at any given moment but at the end of the day God sees me through and I always return safely to the starting point whether there were bumps during the ride or not.
It’s those bumps, ‘zigs and zags’ & 100 foot drops that drive me to close my eyes & hold on tight to my faith.
